KFC Skin

Have you ever said something out loud, and then as soon as it's out, you realize that you should have just said it in your head? You like put something out there, and the person you said it to is like shocked and horrified, and you wish you could take back the last 10 seconds of your life? So you pretend that you were joking, or that they're the weirdo for being so appalled. Well, honestly, I do this quite a bit more than I should. My husband and I even have a name for it, we call it KFC skins; and I'll tell you why:

When I was 9 years old my favourite food ever was Kentucky Fried Chicken. My friend Hannah (who was a bit of a health nut if you ask me, especially for a 9 year old...ie. she used to eat tofu hot dogs) invited me to a Girl Guide pot luck dinner.

As a side note, I never much cared for Girl Guides, the uniforms were frumpy, and once a week was a hell of a commitment.

So we were at this dinner and one of the girls brought a bucket of KFC. I was so excited! I was even starting to rethink my stance on the whole 'Girl Guide issue'. So we're eating our dinner, and I noticed that Hannah was removing the skin from her chicken (which is obviously the best part!). So I'm staring at this delicious pile of discarded skin, the 11 secret herbs and spices were totally calling my name; I decide to ask Hannah for her KFC skin (she fully wasn't going to eat it anyways!). Right away Hannah's jaw totally drops and she stares at me with a look of tremendous disgust and says "Ewww!! That's so gross Mary!! I can't believe you just said that, you're so sick!!" , so I quickly replied, "Oh my gosh Hannah I was totally kidding", and awkwardly laughed...The rest of the dinner we sat in silence: her completely disgusted, and me fully embarrassed but mainly silent in concentration, still trying to hatch a scheme to sneak the discarded skin.

As an end note: at the end of the dinner I offered to clear her plate and snuck the KFC skin when no one was looking

And that's the last interaction I've had with the Girl Guides...oooo except for their thin mints...I'd interact with those any day!!

My favourite part of the whole post: "As a side note, I never much cared for Girl Guides, the uniforms were frumpy, and once a week was a hell of a commitment."

So Mary! Ha.

I must admit, I've been looking forward to a new post all week.
